A BURNHAM man has been jailed for stealing £145,000 from clients at a Bristol solicitors. Allan Thompson, aged 54, of Poplar Road admitted 10 charges of theft and two charges of false accounting at a hearing in Bristol Crown Court.Thompson was employed by Veale Wasbrough in Bristol and from 1998 appropriated money from clients' accounts. A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said: "The thefts came to light when Thompson tried to change firms in August 2006. He admitted the thefts were to fund a better lifestyle. "Laws are in place to stop people writing cheques to themselves so the money was paid into the account of his daughter-in-law, who then passed the funds on to Thompson. "Of the amount stolen, Thompson received £64,000 from his daughter-in-law."Thompson, who had risen to a senior level at the firm, was sentence dto 28 months in prison at the hearing on June 28. A spokesman for Veale Wasbrough said that immediately after finding out about the thefts, the clients affected were reimbursed in full.
