Ten choirs went head to head in a friendly competition which raised hundreds of pounds.

Singers from across Somerset – including the Cheddar Valley Voices and Axbridge Singers – took part in a charity Clash Of The Choirs concert to raise money for the Church of St Mary, in Church Street, Wedmore.

Choirs performed to a packed church and raised £1,800.

David Hopkins, the chairman of the Friends of St Mary’s, said: “The church is a beautiful building and community place.

“We invited as many choirs as we could fit in the building and it was a really good event.

“The money will go towards the upkeep of the church and to things everybody can use.”
