Businesses across the region have won trophies at the Somerset Tourism Awards.
The likes of Weston Lions Club, Holiday Resort Unity and The Almshouse Tea Shop were named among the winners at last week’s ceremony hosted in Bath.
A collection of 86 gold, silver and bronze trophies were awarded and regular visitor to Weston, eat:festivals, scooped up three awards on the night.
Nearly 300 guests attended and the ceremony was hosted by former Bath and England rugby player Phil de Glanville and Laura Rawlings from BBC Radio Bristol.
The eat:festivals team won gold in the responsible, ethical and sustainable tourism category, as well as event of the year and the Winners of Winners Award.
Co-organiser of the food events, Sarah Milner Simonds, said: “We have not come down yet and to win twice and then to realise we had been selected as the winners of winners is so shocking.
“Thank you to all those who make all of our festivals possible; our sponsors, backers, crew, producers, partners and the thousands who visit.”
Weston’s Lions Club won a bronze award in the Festival of the Year category for its real ale and cider event and the town’s visitor information centre won a silver award on the night.
Tourism manager at Weston Visitor Centre, Caroline Darlington, said “We are absolutely thrilled to win the Visitor Information Service of the Year award.
“It has been a wonderful team effort to get this far after such a short time of opening and is a great accolade for Weston.”
“We would also like to congratulate several Visit Weston partners such as Stonebridge Farm Caravan Park, Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm and Wall Eden Farm on their awards.”
Also among winners were Holiday Resort Unity in Brean and The Almshouse Tea Shop in Axbridge – which both won gold awards in the Dog Friendly Business of the Year, Holiday Park of the Year and Café of the Year categories respectively.
COAST has a dog-friendly three-course menu including beer and prosecco beverages, towels, water bowls and treats for pets.
Director of the campsite, Alan House, said: “It is great for dog owners to have somewhere to go whatever the weather where their dogs are welcome too.”
