A SOMERSET youngster sprinted his way to be first past the post at a charity event on Sunday.

Kieran Davies, aged 10, braved the wind and rain to win the Sport Relief Mile run on Weston beach.

The Hugh Sexey Middle School pupil completed the race for charity in 6min 50sec and was cheered on by his parents Kevin, aged 38 and Sharon, aged 39.

Kieran, of Notting Hill Way, in Weare, has been interested in running ever since he joined the Blackford school two years ago. He regularly takes part in cross-country runs but also enjoys tennis and football.

Sharon said: "He did really well and we are all proud of him. He absolutely loves running and hopes to be a sports reporter when he is older."
