A FATHER was brought back to life by his disabled son after suffering a massive heart attack. He then told paramedics to leave him and go and help at the explosion scene where two were found dead.David Besley, of Weston, was visiting his mother's gravestone in Axbridge when he started to feel unwell and collapsed. His 18-year-old son Mark, who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and learning disabilities, phoned 999 when he realised his father had stopped breathing. At the same time in nearby St Marys Street, a flat exploded.Mark said: "I was really scared and a bit panicked, but when I phoned 999 they explained over the phone what I had to do."The youngster managed to get David breathing again before paramedics arrived at the scene. But once David was in the ambulance he asked them to take him to his father's house nearby instead of the hospital, to allow them to tend to victims of the explosion. The blast happened at the home of Wilfred and Wendy Bastin. It was later discovered Wendy had been stabbed before the blaze.David said: "My dad Gerald lives in Parkfield Road in the town so it wasn't too far for me to go. "I heard there had been an explosion in St Marys Street and told the ambulance workers to go and help them instead."They told me I had suffered from a heart attack. If it wasn't for Mark I could have died. "I am so proud of him. Apparently at one point my eyes were white and my chest had stopped moving. Despite his disabilities Mark was able to cope."David, who is a full time carer for his son, was visiting his mother Ivy's grave for the first time after she died in Weston General Hospital a few weeks ago. Mark is taking a course in homes skills at Weston College.
