Two Weston-super-Mare paramedics have been commended for decades of service at an annual awards ceremony.

Richard Bailey and Hayley Pitt were both presented with long service awards at the South Western Ambulance Service ceremony this month.

The pair have worked a combined 50 years for the emergency service, with Richard receiving the Queen’s award for 20 years’ work and Hayley getting the 30 years’ service award.

Chief executive Ken Wenman praised the ‘fantastic’ work the staff do.

He added: “Working in an emergency service it can be difficult to take the time to appreciate the incredible work these people do but these awards are an opportunity to show our staff that their commitment, professionalism and bravery does not go unnoticed.

“These award ceremonies are our way of saying thank you to those who have shown exceptional dedication to their role.”
