Mr Michael was presented with an outstanding achievement award for his team’s work on the attraction’s rebuild over the past two years.

The award, the first in the National Pier Society’s history, was handed over by association member Mike Davies, of Weston.

The Grand Pier opened its doors to visitors for the first time last month since it was devastated by fire in 2008.

The £51million Weston seafront landmark has had more than 500,000 visitors in its first three weeks of opening.

Mr Davies told Mr Michael as he handed over the plate, made by Bristol Blue Glass for the occasion, that it was a ‘remarkable rebuild’ of the attraction.
