SAFETY experts have admitted that speeding is rife in a village but say they do not have the time to tackle the dangerous problem. The Avon and Somerset Safety Camera Partnership has recognised Sandford is a speeding hotspot but the time it can spend cracking down on the problem is limited.A recent survey by Winscombe and Sandford Speedwatch members revealed over 90 per cent of drivers were over the speed limit in the village, with some racing through the 30mph zone at 50mph.The partnership can spend up to 15 per cent of its time in hotspots with mobile cameras. North Somerset Council tells them where to go under a scheme called 'community concern'.Community safety partnership spokesman David Gollicker said: "Sandford has always been a problem and it is recognised by the council."We are restricted to just 15 per cent of our time throughout the whole district. It is not enough but under the current rules that is all we can do."Sandford and Winscombe Speedwatch co-ordinator Bill Cordell said: "If the authorities acknowledge there is a problem, why don't they work more closely with us to solve it before someone is killed.
