Calls from safety-conscious villagers to reduce the speed limit on a busy A-road in Churchill have been answered by North Somerset Council.

The council has given the green light to a motion to reduce the speed limit on the A38 in Churchill from 40mph down to 30mph.

The speed limit has been reduced to improve road safety surrounding two new developments planned alongside the A38.

The developments will see 40 homes built off Says Lane near the A38 in Langford and 41 homes built off the A38 Bristol Road in Churchill.

Churchill Parish Council supported the speed limit change in November, saying it welcomes ‘any measure to enhance road safety for residents and other road users’.

The reduction has been warmly received by villagers.

Jan Murray, spokesman for Churchill and Langford Residents’ Action Group, said: “We are thoroughly in favour
of the reduction in the speed limit on the A38 through Churchill.”
