A Weston woman has raised more than £3,000 for three charities after her friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Ruth Goddard held a sponsored car wash at the Hornets Rugby Football Club in aid of the causes.

The rugby club let her use the car park and water for free, Proper Job donated buckets and chamois while Pro-Tect drew up signs for the day.

Generous motorists donated £190 for the appeal after driving off with shiny vehicles.

Ruth is also taking part in a sponsored bike ride from London to Paris with Women V Cancer to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action and she has raised £3,000 so far.

Ruth took on the challenge after her friend Julie Meno was diagnosed with inoperable breast cancer. She is hoping to raise awareness of the condition and funds to pay for research and treatment.
