A redeveloped skate park in Weston-super-Mare was officially opened this weekend.

Weston Town Council organised the revamp of the park, at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre in Hutton Moor Road, using a £75,000 grant from Sport England.

Members of Weston Skate Park Association, which uses the park, helped to design the route.

It can be used for skateboarding, BMX bikes, roller-blading and scooters, and will last for around 15 years.

Town council clerk Malcolm Nicholson said: “Having a multi-wheel facility in Weston will help encourage activity and a healthy lifestyle.

“The ramps vary in size, making the skate park appealing to a wide age range.”

The council, which took responsibility for the park in 2004, decided to redevelop it as it had reached the end of its useful life.

Around £2,500 for the project also came from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s fund for community projects.
