Weston hospital fundraisers donate sports equipment

A group raising money for Weston General Hospital has provided sports equipment to boost patients’ mental health.

A Facebook group, called Community Fundraising for Weston General Hospital, was approached by staff at the Long Fox Unit, which helps people with their mental health.

Staff wanted to take patients to Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, as exercise can be beneficial to patients, and the group raised money for the membership.

Sianne Butcher, from the group, said: “We are delighted we managed to raise the money via a jumble sale and donations to fund this for them at a cost of £345.60 for a year.

“We also bought them lots of sports equipment such as tennis racquets, balls, badminton equipment and received donations of sports equipment from kind members of the public.”

The group is raising money for a new carpet for the discharge lounge.
