A sports club for people aged over 50 has made a £1,000 donation for a new scanner at Weston General Hospital.

The Hutton Moor 50+ Sports Club has organised raffles, skittles and lunches to contribute to the appeal, which is run by the League of Friends.

The League and Weston Area Health NHS Trust are hoping to raise £400,000 in total.

Angela Bass, chairman of the sports club, said: “People our age tend to have more usage of hospital services, for example some of our members have had knee or hip operations, which require an X-ray examination.

“Because of that, we understand how vital it is Weston has the best scanning equipment possible so its radiology team can produce better X-rays and diagnose conditions more quickly.”

The hospital carries out more than 70,000 scans every year, and this is expected to increase.

To donate, text SCAN16 and the amount to 70070.
