TWO sports clubs could take over the running of Locking's playing fields after putting a proposal to the parish council.

Both Belvedere Cricket Club and Mendip Girls Football Club are currently without a home, and want to take on the fields in the village as their new residences.

Jason Lucas of Mendip Girls, which currently hires the facility on a week-to-week basis, addressed Locking Parish Council at its meeting on Thursday, and said the two clubs were happy to take over all maintenance costs of the fields and would work alongside the authority to arrange a deal.

He added that Belvedere would consider changing its name to Locking Belvedere to mark its new home, while other groups currently using the fields would be allowed to continue if a deal was agreed.

Another idea mooted was that of a village festival similar to the one currently organised by Mendip Girls, and the two clubs will now submit a written proposal for the council to look over.
