PORTISHEAD shoppers are helping Aids orphans in South Africa when they buy green in the town's organic children's shop. Bella Natura was set up by Portishead mum-of-two Jayne Morris-Thurgood who was inspired following a trip to South Africa. After seeing the orphans plight for herself, Jayne decided to open the not-for-profit shop, which sells organic clothing, with all proceeds going to a South African charity called Thembalethu (Our Hope).Jayne, aged 46, of Weston-in-Gordano, said: "During my trips to South Africa I visited a growing number of Aids affected orphans and discovered the charity Thembalethu, which currently assists more than 3,000 children."I wanted to do something that would help and combine that with my environmental interests. "An organic, not-for-profit store seemed the best way to achieve that." So far customers have helped Bella Natura provide £1,500 to build a house for two orphan girls and have also raised £800 to build a 'Jungle Gym' for the many children that go into Thembalethu on a daily basis. Jayne added: "Bella Natura has been providing parents with organic cotton clothing for their children for more than two years and, thanks to the interest and support of its customers, the shop has recently expanded and increased its range of clothing and stocking a selection of traditional wooden toys, organic toiletries and real cloth nappies."Readers can discover more about Bella Natura by visiting www.bellanatura.co.uk
