A LONG-AWAITED farmers' market will be up and running in Nailsea next Spring. The market will operate on the third Saturday of each month at Crown Glass Place and feature a range of local producers selling goods including vegetables, meat, cheeses and homemade pickles and cakes. The market will be run by Somerset Farmers Market in conjunction with the Taste of North Somerset group (TONS), Nailsea Town Council and the precinct owners Halladale Ltd.The move to launch a farmers' market in the town has taken months to bring to fruition.Proposals were initially put forward last year but the sale of the town centre to Halladale Ltd caused delays.A search for stallholders will now be launched by TONS with the first event taking place in April.Nailsea Town Council clerk Ian Morrell said: "The market operators will be looking for local producers who will supply straight to the customer."A farmers' market is something we have been trying to bring to Nailsea but because of the sale of the town centre and other issues it has not been until now that we have been able to bring a plan forward."The operators will now be talking to local producers who ideally will need a six month lead in time to ensure stock for the Nailsea market."We hope the introduction of a market will bring more people into Nailsea which will benefit the local economy.
