A MAN was crushed to death in an industrial accident at a tourist attraction.John Betchley died while carrying out a safety inspection on the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway in Cornwall.The 51-year-old, who lived in Meadowlands, St Georges, was crushed by a steam crane and died at the scene on August 25.During the course of its annual inspection, Mr Betchley was between a jib and a cable drum winch while the crane was being operated.He became trapped and was crushed to death between the two machines.Mr Betchley's family, that includes a wife, four daughters and five grandchildren, said in a statement that he died doing the job he loved.They said: "We are absolutely devastated by what has happened. "He was a great family man who had been married for over 30 years. His life was centred around his family and love of trains, he died doing a job he loved". The steam railway is a tourist attraction operating steam trains on short trips.Most of the staff are volunteers and enthusiasts with the repairs and servicing of the locomotives taking place on the track.The attraction is annually inspected by an accredited inspector on behalf of the railway's insurers.
