A RESIDENT has taken action to reduce accidents on a notoriously dangerous road by drawing plans and offering funding.Steve Brinson, of Cross Lane, presented his plans for the A38 crossroads to Compton Bishop Parish Council last week and received the councillors' full backing.Steve's plans include building a roundabout near the problematic crossroads and an extended car park for The New Inn pub. He has offered to fund the project which was welcomed by councillors whose own plans for a roundabout were rejected by Somerset County Council's highways department because it would cost £1million to make the existing roads wider. The Somerset Mercury previously reported how plans were rejected because of EU Regulations saying the roads were too narrow meaning land would have to be dug up just to make room for a roundabout.Steve said: "My plans are in the early stages. I was pleased the parish council gave me the support it did at the meeting. I've lived here all my life and it's about time something was done. Now I have the council's support, I will offer funding to help."Compton Bishop council chairman Michael Tobin said: "We fully support Steve's plans but the next stage is to have a discussion with the Highways Agency at Somerset County Council and Sedgemoor District Council's planning department to see if these plans could go ahead. We have no objections but we need to discuss it further."Steve hopes these plans could help reduce traffic problems on the crossroads that saw the latest crash happen just two weeks ago.He has no previous planning experience so is asking for advice from a developer and is hoping to then go to Sedgemoor District Council to get the plans in place.Steve said: "There's a long way to go yet but the first stages are very encouraging, the police have also given us support. I've seen lots of accidents here and I'm glad something may be done before it's too late.
