STANDARD bearers from across the country attended a special ceremony to mark an important stage in the creation of a major new Royal British Legion centre.The Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Gass, laid the foundation stone at the charity's new welfare break centre in Beach Road.The Royal British Legion's national chairman, John Hawthornwaite, gave an opening speech and then two standard bearers stood either side of the stone while it was unveiled.The centre will provide temporary accommodation for veterans and dependants recovering from illness, hospitalisation or bereavement.The foundations of the new site have been completed and workers hope to complete the new building by next June.
