TRADERS in Nailsea are being urged to make sure their windows look fabulously floral this summer for the annual Nailsea in Bloom competition. As part of this year's entry into the South West in Bloom contest, traders in the town are being urged to dress their windows in this year's colour theme of red, white, blue and gold. The competition is being run in partnership with the North Somerset Times, Nailsea Horticultural Society and Nailsea Chamber of Trade and Commerce.Nailsea and District Horticultural Society chairman Martyn Davies said: "We are hoping the traders in Nailsea will once again do us proud and dress their windows up for the initiative."Last year we had some fabulous displays and the judges had a very tough job and we hope this year they will be better and bigger than ever."The South West in Bloom judge is visiting Nailsea on July 20 in the afternoon. The closing date for the window competition is July 17.As part of the window competition, the Chamber of Trade is also organising a children's treasure hunt.Stores in the town will be displaying a flower in the window of their shops and children have to identify which bloom it is and which store it is in to enter the competition and be in with the chance of winning a prize. The competition is based on the flowers which are regularly found in an English country garden.Nailsea Chamber of Trade and Commerce chairman Karen Irish said: "The idea is to get children to identify the flowers in the shop windows."Each shop will be displaying a flower on a piece of paper as part of the window display."It will be a fun way to involve young people in the Nailsea in Bloom competition and to encourage them to learn about different plants and flowers."The competition will open on July 17 and run for two weeks and prizes will be given to the winners.Entry forms will be available at local shops or from Karen Irish at Arcadia Hair by Design from July 17.Businesses wanting to enter the Nailsea in Bloom best dressed window competition can also collect entry forms from Mrs Irish.
