Storm Emma and large amounts of snow are due to hit Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset today, so the Weston Mercury has the latest details on the disruption affecting schools, transport and other services.

The Met Office forecast the snow at the weekend, first issuing a yellow weather warning. But as the weather pattern became clearer, this warning was changed to ‘amber’ to reflect the fact the impact of the snow was expected to be more severe.

There are also ice warnings, with roads and pavements expected to be slippery.

Public Health England issued its own warnings as young and elderly people can become ill in the cold.

The cold weather has already affected Weston’s wildlife, with more than 100 fish in Marine Lake dying because of the cold.

But while the snow has caused problems, it has also made for some stunning photographs.
