A hot topic on Streetlife this week has been Weston-super-Mare’s former Dorville hotel – and some additional flats which may be added close to the site.

The hotel, in Madeira Road, was given the green light to be turned into flats back in 2013.

While this work is nearly finished, a fresh planning application has been submitted to North Somerset Council for 48 new flats on the Lynton House Hotel site 100 yards away.

Parking was an issue for residents when the original plans for flats were submitted and there are now fresh concerns.

Streetlife user Dawn C said: “I live in South Road and the parking situation is getting worse.

“The car park in Madeira Road is always near on empty because people don’t like paying.

“I use the 106 bus and sometimes it’s difficult for the driver to get round the corner of Paragon Road because someone has parked right on the corner.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen when the new flats open.”

Jo C also has some concerns and had her say online about a potential solution.

She said: “All it needs is for the plans to include underground parking which would greatly add to the value of the properties and also give security to residence.

“It would also take the pressure off the roads. If it can’t go underground then roof top parking is the alternative.”

The consultation period for comments on this planning application will run until July 13, with residents able to voice their concerns online.

JP Hancock took to Streetlife to voice some concerns about other roads in Weston, which are also struggling to cope with the number of cars needing to park.

He said: “Upper Kewstoke Road is also suffering, due to parking on both sides of the street and a number of cars have been damaged.”
