Strike did not impact fire emergencies

A FIREFIGHTERS’ strike had no impact on attending emergency calls, according to Avon and Fire Rescue Service.
A 24-hour walkout over pensions took place yesterday (Thurs) with firefighters on the picket line rather than on duty.
Resilience crews were organised to cover any 999 emergency call-outs and they attended a number of incidents in the area.
They were called to Worle because of a ‘burning smell’ from an electrical box in Linnet Close and also attended a false alarm, with good intentions, at a care home in Weston. Other incidents in North Somerset included a crash on the M5.
A spokesman for the fire service said all calls were dealt with as promptly and efficiently as they would have been had no firefighters been on strike.
