Student’s voluntary shop work

A Blagdon student has given up hours of free time to volunteer at a Weston Hospicecare fundraising shop.
Jordan Chave, aged 16, feared a ‘tedious experience’ when he realised he would need to complete a six-month voluntary placement in order to achieve his Duke of Edinburgh silver award.
The Sidcot School student chose to volunteer at the Hospicecare shop in Woodborough Road, Winscombe, and was pleasantly surprised by the experience.
He said: “Volunteering made me feel I was contributing to society and helping people, especially those I don’t know. I would definitely consider it in the future after my exams are over.”
