AS THE World Cup kicks off more than 5,000 miles away in Brazil tonight (Thurs), the global showpiece has inspired one school to run its own mini tournament.

Weston Football Club’s charity, the Sports Active Seagulls Community Trust (SAS), welcomed children from Oldmixon Primary School for matches at the end of last week.

Pupils in years one to six were allowed to play in the sun, although thankfully conditions were quite a bit cooler than England are likely to face against Italy on Saturday.

The competition is the start of a link-up between the school and the charity.

The SAS, led by Geoff Stevens, is set to embark on a six-week World Cup-themed healthy living course with the older students.
