REVAMPING part of Weston's Blakehay Theatre could be arranged by the town council.
Members of the authority’s policy and finance committee meeting discussed the proposal to carry out work on the upper studio at the Wadham Street venue.
Sarah Pearse, the authority’s financial officer, told councillors theatre manager Sally Heath has requested the cash, currently allocated for maintenance, be used for the studio instead.
She said: “If it does come in at more than the plan maintenance, which is £9,000, it will have to be addressed to members again.”
Councillor Roger Bailey, who used the studio for the final round of a talent show he organised, Weston’s Got Talent, was pleased members supported Ms Heath’s request.
He said: “If the theatre manager thinks the best thing to do is to renovate the upstairs studio then we should recognise that.
“When we were doing Weston’s Got Talent it was boiling. The ventilation was terrible.”
