A musician who stabbed himself 20 times in a ‘ritualistic-style’ suicide was a ‘reclusive young man absorbed in spiritual matters’ but could not have been a ‘better son’.

Former Walliscote and Wyvern school pupil Nathan Wills was found dead by his parents in his Sandford Road home in Weston earlier this year.

An inquest into his death last week heard how the 30-year-old had no drugs or alcohol in his body at the time of his death and his behaviour had been ‘unusual’ leading up to when his body was found.

Earlier this year his father Nick told the Mercury how his son had killed himself in a ‘ritualistic-style’ suicide.

The inquest heard how the hugely-popular young music producer, who police said was reclusive and absorbed in spiritual matters, had stabbed himself 20 times in the chest when he was found.

A statement from his father read aloud at the inquest at North Somerset Coroners Court in Flax Bourton said about the weeks before his son’s death: “It was like his light side and dark side were separating.

“I called Nathan on July 27 and it was like he was losing his mind to a degree.

“The following morning my wife and I went to his home and found him in the kitchen/dining area, naked and clearly dead.

“Nathan took his own life. I believe he could not cope with this world any more. I appreciate the life we did have together and I could not have asked for a better son.”

A keen video blogger, the musician had fans worldwide, including YouTube sensation Cory Williams, whom he visited in the United States and who created a video tribute to his friend following his death.

He wrote about five albums of original music, the last of which he put online a week before his death.

Assistant deputy coroner Dr Peter Harrowing recorded a verdict that Nathan took his own life.
