A MAN nicknamed ‘Mitch’ due to his resemblance to the Michelin Man is celebrating after losing almost half of his body weight and winning a slimming award.
Rob Jones was named Cambridge Weight Plan’s slimmer of the year for 2012 after going from 22.5 stone to 11 stone in just five months.
Mr Jones, the singer in ska band The Communicators, said his wife had left him for being ‘fat’ and that his weight also caused him to lose his job working for a nursing care agency.
He said he made the decision to battle the bulge after being prescribed with anti-depressants.
The 37-year-old, who had now gone from a 50 inch waist to a 30 inch one, added: “I just thought, there’s got to be an easier way than this.
“I was never able to go into shops and buy normal clothes, I had to go in the one shop in Burnham which did the five-x size.
“I’ve even played my first football match now – now I want to help other people to lose weight too.”
Mr Jones, from Charleston Road in Burnham, now works as a slimming consultant, and says he has signed up to take part in a half-marathon this October.
