A MAN from Weston has raised more than £1,000 for a charity by shedding the pounds.

Beach Road resident John Pawle has lost 2st 10lbs since he started slimming on January 1 to raise money for his local Samaritans group.

The 59-year-old has gone from 15st 3lbs to 12st 7lbs in the space of four months and is still hoping to add to his total.

He said: “It’s always tough to lose weight and gets harder as you get older but collecting money for a worthy charity like the Samaritans is a fantastic incentive.

“I just had to succeed because they need all the help they can get to keep the Samaritan centre in Weston open. It is not too late to donate”
