RESIDENTS are tired of being woken up 'ridiculously early in the morning' by delivery lorries - according to two North Somerset councillors.Andy Wright and Sally Tabrett have been contacted by numerous residents complaining about lorries delivering to the Sainsbury's store at the North Worle District Centre, off Queens Way, early in the morning and late at night. At the moment the supermarket has a temporary licence to have one delivery from 5-6.30am from Monday to Saturday with deliveries then only taking place before 10pm. On Sundays and bank holidays it is restricted to receiving deliveries from 8am-5pm.However, the licence runs out at the end of the year and councillors say they will fight to block any licence extension because it disturbs people too much.Cllr Wright said: "The residents were here before Sainsbury's was and it's grossly unfair that they have to put up with this."In particular, those living in Marlborough Drive and Appletree Court are having their sleep broken and can't leave their windows open due to the noise."We plan to meet with environmental health officers to look into the matter and the police because some lorry drivers are parking in the road until they are allowed to deliver into the yard, which also creates a lot of noise."The deliveries need to be rescheduled or when an application is put into the council for a permanent extension later in the year we will call it in to be dealt with by councillors and fight against it."A Sainsbury's spokesman said: "We are only aware of one breach of our restrictions which we apologise for and are investigating. "Previously we had consent for deliveries from 6.30am-10pm Monday to Saturday and not on Sundays or bank holidays."However, an amendment was agreed by the council that allows us one delivery between 5am-6.30am and deliveries on Sundays and on bank holidays from 8am-5pm if we put up acoustic fence panels."These special fence panels are currently being put up around the service yard which backs on to houses to cut the amount of noise heard by residents.
