A Weston-super-Mare woman will take to the skies for her 45th birthday and hopes to raise £1,000 for charity.

Wendy Tideswell will complete a wing-walk on June 29 at an RAF base near London, to support Action For ME, a charity which hopes to find a cure for myalgic encephalomyelitis.

She said: “The wing-walk has been completely funded by me however I decided to do something for charity after discovering my old school friend was very ill.”

Mike Chubb, who Wendy met at Walliscote Primary School, in Weston, was diagnosed with ME last year. The chronic disease affects different body systems, including his nervous and immune systems.

Wendy said: “Mike and I spoke about how it affects him and his family and I decided I wanted to do something for him.

“I am terrified of heights but I know as soon as have landed I will want to go again.”
