POLICE are almost doubling the bill they hand to organisers of the star-studded T4 on the Beach concert taking place this summer.Avon & Somerset Constabulary wants £13,700 to police the event on June 18. Last year it charged £8,000.There will be more officers on patrol this year because alcohol will be available to music fans, unlike last year. Police also estimate there will be more visitors than last year - as many as 60,000 music fans. But the bulk of the extra cost is because the force wants to recover the full cost of the policing bill. Last year it only recovered part of the cost.Chief inspector Nick Walker said: "Over the last couple of years we have been working with major events organisers and we have said we will be raising our costs."We don't think it is fair for them to bear the full costs straight away, but in three years the full costs to police events will be recovered. We mentioned this to the T4 organisers last year."This year the event has been risk assessed for 60,000 people and an alcohol licence. It will be policed adequately for the event and surrounding areas over a 12- hour period. We have asked the event organisers to increase their security too."Alcohol will be available to music fans from one large bar on the beach. Only those aged 21 or over will be sold alcohol in plastic glasses. Will Young and The Pussycat Dolls will be appearing at this year's event along with Embrace, The Zutons, Basement Jaxx, the Pet Shop Boys, Simon Webbe, The Automatic, Frank, The Feeling and Boy Kill Boy.Other acts at the event, being presented by Vernon Kay, June Sarpong, Steve Jones and Miquita Oliver, have yet to be confirmed.
