TOURISTS in Cheddar could soon be receiving a good talking to from an unusual addition to the gorge. Motorists parking there will be reminded to check that valuables have not been left on display in their vehicles by a talking sign. The sign has been put up outside the Cheddar Caves and Gorge Company. When someone walks past it a sensor detects they are there and plays a message telling people to check their valuables are secure. The talking sign is portable and can be used throughout the Cheddar and Burnham areas. Police Community Support Officer Gary Lewis said: "We are keen to promote prevention as a major weapon against crime."Police in Cheddar also want to reduce speeding in the village.A Speedwatch team is now up and running. Members of the public have been asked to volunteer to use speed guns in problem areas and the team has recorded over 30 vehicles breaking the speed limit. Offending drivers have received warning letters and repeat offenders will be visited by a police officer. Anyone interested in joining can contact PCSO Lewis on 07920 450430.
