A FORMER Sidcot School teacher accused of sex abuse will not be facing criminal charges. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has decided not to take action against the man.The police passed evidence to the organisation after a lengthy investigation. But the police have issued a statement saying: "We carried out a full investigation into allegations of sex abuse."The case was passed to the CPS and a decision was taken not to pursue a prosecution in this case."The case has rumbled on since February when it was revealed that an investigation involving the police and social services had been launched.Andrew Counsell, who raised allegations about sex abuse with the school near Winscombe last October, said he was "hugely disappointed" no further action was being taken.Mr Counsell was sacked by Sidcot School near Winscombe after sending letters to parents and others making a series of allegations about the school and the way it is run. He is currently waiting for an employment tribunal and said: "It's not quite over yet."A parent and police chief superintendent Chris Gould has been looking at Sidcot's Criminal Records Bureau and appointments procedures. The founder member of the Child-Safe charity said: "The school decided some years ago to retrospectively carry out Criminal Records Bureau checks on all members of staff. I have made recommendations to the school on the technical side, to do with its database systems for recording the checks and the links between the CRB checks and the recruitment process."I don't think any other school would do the amount of checks that it has done."The school's headteacher John Walmsley said: "Mr Gould has looked at every teacher's record and said we are head and shoulders above all the other secondary schools in the county."I think this matter is being brought to an end now.
