TWO former teenage sweethearts celebrated 60 years of marriage with dozens of friends and family members.

Eric and Margaret Darling first met as teenagers at North Cheam youth club in Surrey, and were married on August 9 1952 at the village’s Baptist church.

They moved to North Somerset in 1963, with Mr Darling, aged 82, worked as a compositor while his wife, aged 81, looked after their four children.

To celebrate their diamond anniversary, the couple, who also have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, held a gathering at Milton Baptist Church on August 9 and an open-house event at their home in Garsdale Road, Weston.

Mr Darling, who was the founder and leader of the Milton Singers for 33 years and was also a swimming teacher at Milton Junior School, said the key ingredients of a lasting relationship were ‘trusting each other, learning to get on together and being able to work out your problems’.
