A TEMPORARY Chief Inspector has taken the helm of North Somerset after the previous chief left policing altogether.

Chief Inspector Alex Cohen has stepped down from the role he first took in May 2013 as part of a wave of structural changes at Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

He has now left policing altogether to pursue an operations manager role at Bath Rugby.

For the meantime, he has been replaced by Temporary Chief Inspector Stuart Bell, who will become the new North Somerset Local Policing Area Commander.

He has previously been based in Taunton and was in charge of creating the Halcon One team.

This project aimed to create partnerships between agencies to influence the allocation of services, reduce the amount of crime, and raise trust and confidence in reporting domestic violence.

Chief Inspector Bell said: “At short notice I was asked to come in as Alex Cohen’s replacement for North Somerset. I will be working closely with Weston Neighbourhood Inspector Sharon Bennett, who will still be operational lead for the area.”
