A village sports club opened its courts at the weekend with the hope of boosting participation.

Cleeve Lawn Tennis Club held an open day on Sunday afternoon, encouraging people to try their hand at the sport.

Experienced players were on hand to offer tips and advice to people trying the game for the first time.

Conditions on court were excellent for the open day, with the bank holiday downpours relenting for the afternoon.

Club secretary Karen Barnett hopes the open day inspired more people to play tennis.

She said: “We are always trying to encourage new members to have a go. We are always looking to boost numbers.

“We’re a friendly, social and happy club, so come along and have a try at tennis. People are welcome to attend any of our sessions.”

The tennis club hosts training sessions on Wednesdays at 7pm and on Sunday afternoons from 2-4pm.
