BRISTOL International Airport has had record numbers of passengers since last week's foiled terrorist plot.Holidaymakers have flocked to the airport from Heathrow and Gatwick to avoid long queues and flight cancellations.More than 15,000 people have passed through the airport every day since security measures were raised on August 10.There has not been a spare seat on the daily flight to New York since security was tightened with travellers desperate to get to the United States.Aviation development director Tony Hallwood says the scare will increase the number of passengers the airport receives. He said: "We were planning to take flights from other airports, but in the end filled our extra seats."This year has been the busiest summer for the airport on record and to fill our extra seats has just heightened that."We believe that this will encourage more people to use Bristol rather than the London airports in future."At Bristol you can check-in smoothly and not worry about parking so we hope more people will start using us."Bristol airport amended its security status in line with the Government's direction from critical to severe on Monday.Passengers are now allowed one small item of hand luggage on the plane rather than plastic bags.Liquids, except for prescription medicine and baby food, gels, pastes and lotions are still banned from plane's cabins.Armed officers continue to patrol the airport terminal and extra searches are being carried out on passengers.
