The former Liberal Democrat MP for Wells has been chosen to represent the party in the next General Election.

Tessa Munt was elected to contest her seat at the party selection meeting on May 31.

Chairman of Wells Liberal Democrats, Rosemary Hasler, said: “We have made our choice from an excellent field. Many congratulations to Tessa, who is already well known to residents and businessman.”

Tessa said: “I am really honoured to be selected as the parliamentary candidate for Wells.

“For more than 40 years, the Liberal Democrats have been the only challengers to the Conservatives in this area.”

Tessa was the MP for the Wells constituency from 2010-2015, but lost out to Conservative party MP, James Heappey, in 2015 and 2017.

She said: “Wells needs someone to stand up for all of our communities – and I’ll do exactly that.”

Tessa was elected to Somerset County Council last year.
