A North Somerset charity has ‘generously’ donated money to a primary school to ensure pupils are safe when crossing a busy road.
Sandford Primary School received £4,000 from the Thatchers Foundation to preserve its school crossing patrol for another year after North Somerset Council scrapped its funding for lollipop ladies.
Headteacher Lin Williams said: “Thank you to the foundation for funding the school crossing patrol for the next twelve months.
“Pupil safety is the school’s main priority, therefore to be able to maintain this service is essential.”
Foundation trustee Anne Thatcher added: “We’re delighted to be able to step in and enable this vital service to be maintained for pupils at the school.
“It would be unthinkable not to have a pedestrian crossing or school patrol here, and when we heard that there was a dilemma over funding, it made total sense to contribute, which we do with a very willing heart.”
