Thatchers' The Railway Inn, in Sandford hosted its first ever village wassail this week, which proved to be a huge success.

The traditional ceremony was held at the gastro-pub in Station Road on Tuesday and ensured the apple harvest and cider will be safe from evil spirits.

A procession took place, with the wassail queen and Mendip Morris Men both taking part. There was also a host of mulled cider to keep all punters warm on the chilly evening.

Thatchers’ managing director, Martin Thatcher, said: “The wassail ceremony is a true Somerset tradition and we were very pleased to welcome all our guests to The Railway Inn’s first wassail.”
