YOUNG people in North Somerset are being urged to sign up to develop life saving skills.St John Ambulance has launched a new training package called 'young first aider' which is specifically designed for seven to 16-year-olds.The course covers 25 first aid topics and shows young people how to treat asthma, bites and stings, bleeding, burns, choking, shock and joint and muscle injuries.St John Ambulance training manager Ann Wootton said: "First aid saves lives and young people can make a real difference to their community by learning these skills."Our young first aider course is fun to learn and gives young people the confidence they need to cope in an emergency."The package contains everything teachers or youth leaders need to train young people."The course takes 12 hours to complete and each student will receive a certificate.Anyone wanting to know more can contact Helen Ashworth on 0117 9533880.
