The stars of Weston-super-Mare’s pantomime gave up their time to support a group of volunteers.

The Friends Of The Playhouse group helps the theatre, in High Street, by raising money for equipment and selling programmes.

The Friends formed in 1991, and members’ fundraising paid for a stair lift, a piano and sound equipment.

The group’s recent coffee morning was attended by the stars of The Playhouse’s pantomime Aladdin.

John Altman, best known for playing Nick Cotton on EastEnders, and the other cast members chatted to the 40 volunteers.

The group holds a coffee morning every week, and hosts an annual open day where people can explore the theatre’s backstage area.

People can join the Friends for £10 a year, and receive 15 per cent off ticket prices at most shows.

The pantomime will run at The Playhouse until December 31.
