THE Vikings came to Nailsea at the weekend for a scurmish at the annual May Fair.But that was the only battle taking place at the Scotch Horn Park as the event, organised by the 2nd Nailsea Scouts, was trouble free.Police, the local action team and fair organisers were out in force over the weekend to ensure the smooth running of the event following concerns about rowdy behaviour at last year's fair.Nailsea community beat officer PC Roger Watts said: "The young people need to be applauded for their behaviour."There were no complaints from the public to the police regarding the fair during the weekend."This year the scouts raised a record £4,000 from the fair, with organisers saying the event was the best ever.Chairman of 2nd Nailsea Scouts Richard Simmonds said: "The Viking display was very well received and we plan to have them back next year in bigger numbers."Some Vikings came from as far away as Cambridge and I believe we even had the world champion Viking swordfighter taking part in the show."We had a record attendance at the fair and it was nice to see the people of Nailsea enjoying the event."Nailsea Local Action team member and town councillor Rod Lees said: "I have visited the park following the fair and cannot see any signs of damage to any of the trees."It was a well run event with Tesco upping its security and even using a mobile CCTV camera on site."I had a lot of comments from people saying they really enjoyed the event and its attractions and saying that perhaps it should be a two day fair next year.
