A BIG pot of cash was divided up between 24 children’s clubs to help them get healthy this summer, thanks to the Mercury and Weston Lions’ Go Kids Go! scheme.

Repairing old equipment, creating forest schools and expanding football and rugby clubs were all part of this year’s stack of applications.

Cheques of up to £2,000 were handed out at the Lion’s Real Ale and Cider Festival
at the weekend – and these lumps of cash came from an overall £12,000 sum thanks to the generous donations from local businesses.

More than 30 submissions were received by the Mercury. Winning groups were handed grants at a presentation on Beach Lawns.

The third year of the awards were sponsored by Weston Town Council, Grand Pier, Mead Group, Nightingales, Howard Group, Quadron Services and Alliance Homes, as well as The Mercury, Weston Lions Club, and Weston Carnival Committee.
