TWO men have been hurt – with one left in a ‘life-threatening condition’ – after they were assaulted in Weston town centre this evening (Friday).

Police were called to Prospect Place at around 8pm after the men were reported hurt, and have since closed the road to allow forensics officers to carry out a thorough investigation.

The two men – whose details have not been released – have since been taken to hospital, where one is said to be fighting for his life. Police have not commented on the nature of his injuries.

However, officers are now looking to track down three other men seen in the area at around the time of the incident.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman told the Mercury: “We were called to an assault on two men just after 8pm tonight.

“Both men are in Weston General Hospital and one is in a life-threatening condition.

“We have closed Prospect Place while forensics work continues and we have got quite a few officers down at the scene to help with inquiries.

“We are keen to speak to a group of three males who were seen leaving the area shortly before police arrived.”

Any witnesses to the incident, or people with other information about what happened, are urged to contact police on the 101 number ‘straight away’.

The police spokesman continued: “To reassure the community, there is going to be a large police presence in the area for the next few hours.”

* UPDATE: Three men have been arrested in connection with this incident.
