Tight-lipped on crem plans

THE company running Weston Crematorium is remaining tight-lipped over its plans to manage development of the site later this year.
Dignity Plc is set to refurbish the chapels and public waiting areas, modernise back-of-house operations, create a garden of remembrance for created remains and extend the cemetery in Ebdon Road, Worle.
Although the Mercury has been told the company plans to close the site two or three days a week during the development, this has this week been denied by the operators.
Two years ago Dignity Plc upset residents living near the crematorium by saying they wanted to create an additional, temporary entrance to the site in Lyfield Road and this week the company refused to comment on whether this was still a possibility.
A spokesman said, following numerous phone calls from the Mercury asking about how construction traffic will be managed: “The development plans are not finally agreed and are currently at the planning stage, and we have not yet reached contract stage with any construction partner.
“As and when we are able we will engage in a further public consultation meeting on the development plans.”
