FUND-RAISERS have just 11 months left to raise £1million to build a community centre in Weston before planning permission runs out.Members of St Peter's Church in Baytree Road have been collecting cash towards building St Peter's Milton Centre for over four years.Planning permission was granted for the project in 2002 but will run out on May 9, 2007 when churchleaders will have to reapply for permission.Reverend Geoff Eales said: "The new centre is to replace our ageing church hall which had a 25-year shelf life but is now in its 40th year."It is literally going to fall down around our ears in the future."Plans are to create a centre following the same design as the church itself, which is built in a Scandinavian style. For a small church it is a big task as we are doing all the fund-raising through events such as beetle drives and coffee mornings."A friend from Worle Baptist Church ran the London Marathon for us and raised a staggering £3,000 which has given us a good boost, but we desperately need more."We are applying to various sources of funding and hope to get a significant grant."The new centre will be a two-storey building with a hall and several smaller rooms. The current hall is used by a host of community groups including brownies, guides, dance clubs, a tai kwon do class and several social clubs.
