Toilet sale collapses

UNCERTAINTY still hangs over the future of a boarded-up toilet block in Banwell after an attempt to buy it fell through.
The West Street toilet, closed two years ago by North Somerset Council, looked to have been sold for £35,000 at auction last month.
But, despite the 10 per cent deposit being paid, the private buyer was unable to find funds to purchase the site.
The deal collapse will comes as a blow for the village residents who had hoped to see some of the sale proceeds put toward a community project.
A community orchard, quarry picnic site and scout hut were already being touted as possible ideas.
Ward councillors Tim Marter said: “I am disappointed this has happened – I only hope we can attract the same price again.”
The toilet will now be sold at Stephen & Co Estate Agents’ next auction.
