A BURNHAM leader’s contribution to Somerset Air Cadets has seen him appointed to a prestigious national role.

Warrant Officer Tony Bird has supported the movement since relocating to Somerset in 2006, with his achievements including leading cadets on overseas expeditions to Mongolia, Ghana, Ecuador and Borneo.

He has now been appointed Drill and Ceremonial Warrant Officer for the national organisation – likely to prove a key role during celebrations of the movement’s 75th anniversary this year.

Tony said “My appointment will be demanding, as there are parades and events taking place throughout the country.”
